Tolkien Embroideries
e-mail me
A series of one-of embroideries, inspired by the works of JRR Tolkien,
"The Silmarillion", "The Hobbit" and "Lord of the Rings".

The writing around the edges of the embroideries are Noldor runes.
They are my adaptation of the Darion Alphabet, which can be found in "The History of Middle Earth, part 2 - The Treason of Isengard". Written by Christopher Tolkien.

I am taking fragments from Tolkien's writing and illustrating them with images from the Bayeaux Tapestry, which tells the story of the Norman invasion of Britain in 1066.

The Normans were in fact the "Northmen" who originated from Scandinavia and emigrated or invaded  Northern France, therefore they have a link  to Norse mythology, which in turn inspired elements in Tolkien's writings.

Tolkien spent his whole life writing and rewriting an alternative British mythology.
I am fascinated by the Tolkien's writings and how they relate to British history and  our imported mythologys, from all the other cultures who have invaded our island.

I also have a huge admiration for Tolkien's passion and obsession and want to capture a hint of it in my own work.
